Desktop Replacement Notebooks : Part 3 of 3

Welcome to the 3rd part…………… This is all about the white and metallic heartthrobs of geeks around the world…………………APPLE, the fruity company.

APPLE

Another Company that I’ll want to talk about is Apple. This is one company that has continued to make profits right through the economic depression. This is almost definitely due to their spectacular product line-up. They are overpriced and not at all very accessible while you are in India. Previously the price in India used to be very skewed when compared to US, EU, or the east-asian countries, but now they are very similarly priced and one might say very competitively priced given the market scenarios in US, where volume sales help the company grow and India, where only a select few opt for these.

Macbook Pro 13″ – Aluminium unibody, 2.4GHz/2.66GHz Core2Duo, 4GB DDR3 RAM, nVidia GT 320M – (2.4GHz) Rs.72,900, (2.66GHz) Rs.89,900

The Macbook is good but if you truly want an Apple experience take the Macbook Pro. The Aluminium unibody (carved from a SINGLE block of Aluminium) is gorgeous. The brilliantly bright screen with brilliant contrast bordered by the black outline is simply gorgeous. The touchpad is unrivalled in notebooks with multi-touch support, and the surface is like satin. The chicklet keyboard is probably comparable to those only on the high-end Sony vaio designer systems.

Well how do you top that? Presenting the Macbook Air. This stupendous machine took everyone’s breath away when it was launched by Steve Jobs. I think for just once he didn’t need to use his presentation skills, just showing the thing did it. You won’t believe how thin it is until you see it for yourself. The end edge looks pencil sharp, not to mention the screen. The hardware is definitely inferior to what’s on the Macbook Pro  but then thats what you pay for the ultimate portable notebook (OOPS! SORRY, Macbook).

The configuration may seem low compared to the others like Dell, Sony, Lenovo, but here a great selling point for Mac systems comes into play. The Mac OSX. Its extremely light and requirements are much lesser than even Windows 7. Consider a powerful system with Win7 can be matched and beaten by a Mac running on inferior specs and you can start to get an understanding of the difference. These are unmatched from the point of design and if you have one then rest assured even an alienware owner is going to envy you for the rest of your life. Even the cheapest macbook is more than any system to make heads turn and be prepared to get a whole lot of envious looks around. According to me the only downside is the service. No matter what happens the system got to go Bangalore(Bengaluru) for repairs even though it only takes a MAXIMUM of 4days to get the system back. This is better service than say Sony, HP, Lenovo ( they take anywhere between 4 days to 2 weeks!!!! ) but is still bad if you reside in a third tier city in India ( after the metros, and the other premier cities ), since the drop points are only those cities with Apple presence.

Go for these over any other system if you are willing to learn the AMAZING OSX ( its a delight ), and deal with the software quirks ( but you can now install Windows on the Macs with very ease ). Installing Windows on Mac is actually easier than any PC!!!!! Thanks to bootcamp. And the service issues if they are any issue to you, rest assured, 4 days, if you reside in a top city.

These are the ultimate experience in computing. You deserve it.

*** STUDENT DISCOUNTS upto Rs.5000 is available given your talking skills with the store representative.

P.S. : Yes, I am a Mac fan boy.
